MSL for Schools
MSL in Schools
MSL can be easily and successfully implemented in schools. The MSL approach is a pedagoagy and not a program where "one size fits all". MSL can compliment and supplement the current literacy curriculum in a school and there has been evidence that children in an inclusive classroom setting have benfitted by MSL teaching. MSL allows optimum multisensory input and output allowing every child to utilise their sensory pathway strenghts whilst building up the weaker one/s.
Who can Benefit by MSL Teaching?
All children in an inclusive classroom can benefit from MSL. The earlier teachers begin implementing MSL the better the long term outcomes.
MSL will have a profound impact when taught in the early grades and it is vital that teachers in the early grades have training that provides a bridge between the science of reading and evidence based approaches that include a multisensory component. Teacher training in this field would reduce the number of children who struggle to read, write and spell who have no sensory or cognitive underlying reasons as to why.

What ages can benefit from MSL?
Research has stated that early intervention and teacher knoweldge of evidence based reading practices are two vital components in reducing poor literacy outcomes in schools. All ages can benefit from being taught the structure of the English language for decoding and encoding. MSL can benefits: Pre readers, young children from grades 1-3 and children from grades 4-6, Teens and Adults.
Teacher Training
Improving teacher's knowledge of evidence based reading and spelling practices will improve the literacy outcome of all children including those with dyslexia. IMSLE offer accredited training in MSL to ensure that teachers are trained effectively in this approach. Ongoing professional development is required to maintain acreditation.
