For more than 20 years, IMSLE has partnered with schools to build teacher capability and improve literacy outcomes through evidence-based Structured Literacy instruction. Our professional learning equips educators to confidently translate research into practice, with a strong emphasis on understanding dyslexia and other diverse learning profiles, identifying students' individual literacy needs, and knowing how to target and tailor instruction to support all learners. Through practical application, guided mentoring, and ongoing implementation support, teachers develop the knowledge and confidence to deliver effective Structured Literacy instruction across a range of educational settings.
IMSLE Training is designed to strengthen both teacher expertise and whole-school literacy capability.

What your teachers will be able to do
Teachers completing IMSLE PLD will be able to:
✓ Target and tailor instruction for diverse learners
✓ Support students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and complex literacy profiles
✓ Deliver explicit, systematic, cumulative Structured Literacy instruction
✓ Identify literacy difficulties early and respond effectively
✓ Use diagnostic assessment to inform teaching
✓ Plan and deliver effective Tier 2, and Tier 3 instruction
✓ Integrate phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and vocabulary in teaching
✓ Improve reading accuracy, fluency, spelling, writing, and comprehension outcomes
✓ Implement Structured Literacy within a whole-school MTSS/RTI framework
How the Ministry of Education has structured the training:
Core Training (5 Days) facilitated professional learning (face-to-face or Zoom)
- Bridge aligned research to the practical application of MSL Elements & Principles
- Learn how the Sciences of Language & Literacy supports effective delivery
- Learn how in integrate all key components of SL rather than isolate
- Learn to refine and hone your SL skills with live demonstrations of teaching models
- Practical application of what to teach and how to target and tailor instruction for diverse learners
- Comprehensive training resources included
Guided Practicum (Over 4 Terms)
- Structured Literacy teaching in authentic classroom settings
- Approximately 50+ hours of supported instruction
- Student profiling and diagnostic assessment
- Lesson planning and progress monitoring tools
- Ongoing mentoring and professional feedback
- Evidence-based case study development
Professional Learning Support
- Eight online Community of Practice sessions, over 4 terms
- Ongoing mentoring with IMSLE expert, Jodi Clements

Participants who complete the full SLA PLD Targeted Training pathway with IMSLE receive:
